Library Services — Research Paper & Project Support

It is time to dive into those research papers that are due next month. If you thumbnailCAOHEWPXneed help finding resources, remember that librarians are available for personal research sessions to assist you in finding what you need in the library or on the Internet. Rather than figure out which of our 260 or so databases we subscribe to would be most useful for your project and dig through them on your own (or worse, rather than be unaware that so many resources are available to you), just visit us at http://www.wesleyan.edu/libr/services/personalresearch.html (or click the link on the library home page), tell us what you are working on and when you can meet one of us, and we will make a list of appropriate resources and show you how to use them effectively. Then you can spend more time writing than researching (or, use the time saved on some other activity of your choice).

Invitation to Work with a Writing Mentor

WRITING MENTOR PROGRAM:  Applications are due Tuesday, February 2 at 5 p.m. and available at:  http://www.wesleyan.edu/writing/workshop/mentorapp.html

TO THE CLASS of 2013:

We invite you to work with a WRITING MENTOR this semester!  Have you ever wanted a personal tutor and editor, someone who would meet with you privately to help with your writing?

thumbnailCAM7YPH6In the Writing Mentor program you will meet every week throughout the semester with a trained student writing mentor. Your mentor will help you with papers for all your courses as well as with general questions about your writing, whether you need advice about generating ideas, structuring your essay, grammar, or time management. We welcome all applicants.

We look forward to hearing from you. You can find the electronic application at: http://www.wesleyan.edu/writing/workshop/mentorapp.html

This is a relatively new program with limited funding so we cannot guarantee that all applicants will be paired with a mentor.  Please note that if you participate in the Writing Mentor program, you are making a commitment to meet with your mentor regularly.

Best Wishes,  Charlie Weiss and Oriana Korol, Ford Fellows in the Writing Program, 103 and 104 Downey House, (860) 685-2440 writingworks@wesleyan.edu

and  Anne Greene, Director of Writing Programs

Welcome Back, Class of 2013

I hope you had a good break and are ready to undertake the last two weeks of classes, which end on Monday, December 14.  The Final Exam Period begins the next day with two reading days, followed by two exam days on December 17 and 18, with two more reading days followed by the last two exam days on December 21 and 22.  If you are unsure of the exam schedule, talk with your instructors and check out http://www.wesleyan.edu/registrar/exam.htt.

thumbnailCA7HWN7RNow is a good time to plan out your coursework and study schedule for the next four weeks so that you can work at a good pace (i.e., not cram) to stay on top of course material, finish up papers and projects, and prepare for exams.  It also is a good time to review past exams with instructors and TAs, get a tutor, review class notes on a consistent basis, and head to the various academic skills sessions and Writing and Math Workshops. Check out the Peer Advisors’ blog at http://peeradvisor.blogs.wesleyan.edu/ for further tips and information.

We want you to be successful and to perform at your highest level!

Any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.  Again welcome back!  Best, Dean Brown
