RE: APPLICATIONS FOR WESLEYAN’S PROGRAMS IN PARIS, MADRID, AND BOLOGNA

This is a reminder that applications for FALL 2012 and YEAR 2012-13 (NOT spring 2013 only) for the Wesleyan-administered programs in PARIS, MADRID, and BOLOGNA are due on FEBRUARY 15. This is a firm deadline and late applications will not be accepted. Applications must be turned in to the Office of International Studies, Fisk Hall 105. A complete application includes the following four items:

  • Application personal information sheets
  • 250-word essay in the appropriate language, explaining why you wish to participate in the program
  • Language evaluation form (to be completed by your current or most recent language professor)
  • Letter of recommendation from a non-language professor (may be sent through campus mail, delivered to our office, or sent as an e-mail attachment or as the text of an email to gwinter@wesleyan.edu)

Applicants to Wesleyan-administered programs must also complete the general “Permission to Study Abroad” application. This application is due on MARCH 1, 2012. Completed general applications must be turned in to the Office of International Studies, Fisk Hall 105.

Last Day to Withdraw from Classes

Today–Friday, December 2 by 5 p.m.–is the last day to withdraw from first semester courses.  You need the signature of your instructor, faculty advisor and class dean in order to submit your withdrawal form to the Registrar’s Office.

Be Sure to Pre-register for Spring 2012!

2013’ers–You all know what to do…!  Meet with your advisor NOW!! 

PRE-REGISTRATION [picking & approving of course plan] = Now through Monday, November 14 at 5pm

SCHEDULING [the computer system scheduling your courses is based on class standing, major preference, seat availability, the number of times you have previously requested the course and, when appropriate, whether you have met the prerequisites or have the permission of the instructor] = Tuesday, November 15

**Probably by Tuesday evening you’ll be able to see what courses you were scheduled for by the computer**

ADJUSTMENT [going through wesmaps and adding courses with seats still still available] = Staggered start times depending on how many courses you got. Those with 0-1 courses go at 8am on Wednesday, November 16 (you will receive an email indicating what time your adjustment starts)

DROP/ADD? Start of next semester!

Spring 2012 Pre-registration Instructions

Juniors:  Make sure that you meet with your major advisor to review major requirements and plan your course of study in conjunction with your Major Certification Form.  As always, check your credit analysis for oversubscription in a department or other category as well as for your progress on other graduation requirements.  –Dean Brown

TASKS
Between 8:30am on Tues., Nov. 1 and 5pm on Mon., Nov. 14 you MUST:
1) Create a course plan, including ranked course selections via EP>Student>Course Registration>Pre-Registration. 

2) Electronically submit Permission of Instructor and Prerequisite Override requests to the instructors through your portfolio.

3) confirm your Fall 2011 schedule in EP>Student>Wesleyan Career>Current Classes & Schedule before 5pm on Mon., Nov. 14 in order to be build a pre-reg plan. (Not applicable to students returning from leave or abroad.)

4) meet with your faculty advisor to finalize your course plan before 5pm on Mon., Nov. 14. (Students returning from leave or abroad also need advisor finalization, but a meeting is not required.)

NOTES
1) Adding a course to your plan does not guarantee you a seat in the course.

2) If you are scheduled into your top ranked class, the system will proceed down list A. If you do not get your first choice, the system will proceed down list B. You should list courses in both columns, and there should be some overlap between the A and B columns.
 
3) On Tues., Nov. 15, the pre-registration system will run a scheduling program enrolling students into courses. The system will look at: rank, class year/major, number of previous requests, number of courses already scheduled, completed pre-requisites, permission of instructor status, and, all things equal, a random number.

4) Later that day, in your portfolio, you will be able to preview your preliminary schedule and ascertain what time you may begin adjustment. Based on the number of scheduled full credit courses (those with fewer enrolled credits go first), you may participate beginning as early as 8am Wed., Nov. 16. Adjustment will close at 5pm on Tues., Nov. 22.

SP ’12 Study Abroad DEADLINE — 10/17

This is a reminder about the deadline for the General Wesleyan Study Abroad Application. It is the “permission to study abroad” application that must be completed by ALL students applying to study abroad for spring 2012, regardless of program choice,  including Wesleyan-administered programs (Bologna, Bordeaux, Madrid, Paris, Regensburg). The application  is usually due on OCTOBER 15 but that date falls on a weekend this year, so the deadline has been moved to MONDAY, OCTOBER 17. This is a firm deadline and late applications will not be accepted.

 A copy of the permission application may be picked up at the Office of International Studies or printed from our website at www.wesleyan.edu/ois. Just click on “Applications” in the “Forms” section and print the “Permission to Study Abroad” PDF document.

Applications must be turned in to the Office of International Studies, Fisk Hall 105. A complete application includes the following 7 items:

  • Personal information sheet
  • Academic justification essay
  • Online Health Information Clearance form*
  • Pre-approval of courses form
  • Student Medical Release and Parental Statement form
  • Assumption of Risk and Release and Waiver form
  • Standards of Conduct Pledge

*All applicants must complete our online Health Information Clearance form. If you have not already done so, you may still do it now. It is in your student e-Portfolio under “Tools and Links.” Be sure to do this before October 17.

Please note that approved programs (not run by Wesleyan) have their own specific deadlines (many do “rolling admissions” and can fill before stated deadlines) so students should check directly with the programs to make certain that applications are filed in a timely manner.

Poster Session on 11/4 on Student Research Abroad — Application deadline 10/10

The Office of International Studies invites you to submit a proposal for a 

Poster Session on Student Research Abroad

The session will take place on

Friday, November 4, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm

Wesleyan University’s Exley Science Center.

If you have carried out academic research in another country, this is a great opportunity to present your findings and gain public speaking experience, as well as to hear about other student research abroad and share your stories.

APPLICATIONS FOR PERMISSION TO STUDY AT WES-ADMINISTERED PROGRAMS

Applicants to Wesleyan-administered programs must also complete the general Permission to Study Abroad Application. This application is usually due on October 15 but that date also falls on a weekend this year so the deadline has been moved to MONDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2011 BY 5:00 p.m. Completed general applications must be turned in to the Office of International Studies, Fisk Hall 105.

Last Day to Withdraw from Classes — 4/27, 5 p.m.

Today–Wed., April 27 at 5 p.m.–is the last day to withdraw from classes for the spring semester.  Talk with your instructor to make sure you know where you stand in each of your courses and where withdrawing from a course will leave you credit-wise, both for the semester and cumulatively.  Consult with your faculty advisor. You need the signatures of your instructor and faculty advisor before you get that of the class dean. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to see Dean Brown.

SART Intern Applications — Due 4/15, Today

Applications for the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) Intern for the 2011-2012 academic year are now being accepted.  The SART intern will provide trained peer support to help students navigate on- and off-campus resources and judicial processes.  The intern will also serve as a liaison between the Davison Health Center, the Office of Behavioral Health for Students, WesWell, Student Activities, SART, the Administration, WSA, and other student and campus groups engaged in sexual assault prevention and response initiatives.  More information can be found through the following links:
