Loaner Caps and Gowns — Available May 6-8
Get Loaner Caps and Gowns Available May 6, 7, 8 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. —
Seniors who do not want to purchase the cap and gown through the bookstore can come to the Usdan Administration Office and borrow a set, while supplies last, sizing not guaranteed. As each student comes to see us, we will need to see if we have the correct size cap and correct length gown. If we do, then they will need to fill out a form acknowledging that this is a loan and if it is not returned they will lose their deposit of $40. Cash or checks will be accepted. The cap and gown must be returned either on the day of commencement by 3pm or the following business day, Tuesday, May 28th between 9am-3pm (the office will not be open on Monday, May 27th). They still must purchase their tassel from the bookstore since those are year specific (~$3-$5). If we run out of caps, they can purchase them separately from the bookstore but not until the week before commencement.
If there are questions, contact Michelle Myers-Brown at mmyersbrown@wesleyan.edu.
Senior Exit Interviews and Financial Literacy Sesssions — 4/29, 4/30, 5/1
Dear Graduating Senior,
This email is to inform you of the exit interview process for student loans you have borrowed at Wesleyan. All students who borrowed a Federal Stafford Loan, Perkins, or Wesleyan Loan are required to complete an exit interview for each loan type prior to graduation. This process informs you of your rights and responsibilities as a loan borrower and your repayment options.
There will be three loan exit presentations:
Monday, April 29, 2013: 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Tuesday, April 30, 2013: 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Wednesday, May 1, 2013: 4:00 p.m. – 5:30pm
All three sessions will be held in Exley Science Center: Room 150.
These informational sessions are designed to provide you with repayment information for federal and institutional loans you may have borrowed while at Wesleyan. Information on debt management, budget management, and default prevention, will also be presented at each session. Representatives from the offices of Student Accounts and Financial Aid will be available to address your questions.
At the session, you will also receive your exit interview packet. The packet contains a list of all the loans you have borrowed while at Wesleyan and instructions for completing the mandatory Federal Stafford, Perkins and Wesleyan Loan exit interviews. If you cannot attend, your packet will be mailed to your campus address. All exit interview materials must be completed by Friday, May 10,2013. It is university policy to withhold both the diploma and official transcripts for any student who does not complete these mandated loan exit interviews.
Please mark your calendar and plan on attending one of these sessions. Note that the sessions are NOT “drop-in” presentations; you should be there from the start in order to avail yourself of the information presented.
Please contact any of the individuals listed below for any questions or concerns OR if you believe you have not received any loans while at Wesleyan OR if you have paid off your loans!
Sincerely,
Jacqueline Outlaw, Assistant Director, Office of Financial Aid, (860) 685-3320, joutlaw@wesleyan.edu Nancy McLees, Associate Director, Office of Student Accounts, (860) 685-2823, nmclees@wesleyan.edu Margaret Neale, Department Assistant, Office of Financial Aid, (860) 685-2862, mneale@wesleyan.edu

Lecture: Kirill Medvedev–“It’s No Good” 4/17, 4:15 p.m.
Kirill Medvedev
“It’s no Good”
April 17th at 4:15 PM in Fisk 210
A reading by the poet and activist from Moscow and his translator, Keith Gessen
Kirill Medvedev is a poet and socialist activist from Moscow. He is the founder of the Free Marxist Press and the author, most recently, of It’s No Good: Poems/Essays/Actions. He has opted out of the literary world by refusing to copyright his works; the copyright page of It’s No Good reads “Copyright denied by Kirill Medvedev, 2012,” and the Moscow (NLO) edition of his works is titled “Without Permission of the Author.” Kirill is also the lead singer of Arkady Kots, a protest rock band.
“He comes across as a shambling holy fool, an unkempt mix of Roberto Benigni and Gary Shteyngart. He throws complicated moral thunder. . . . Medvedev’s unrhymed, come-as-you-are poems (he is a translator of Charles Bukowski) reject romanticism of any sort.” — Dwight Garner, The New York Times.
Keith Gessen is a founding editor of n+1 and Kirill Medvedev’s translator; he has also translated Ludmilla Petrushevskaya and Vladimir Sorokin. He writes about Russia for the New Yorker and the London Review of Books.
