WSA: Financial Aid Comm. Members Needed

financial aidDo you have ideas on how to make Financial Aid more understandable for students and families?  Does your experience give you a special insight onhow the process could be made less stressful for all involved?

The WSA and the Financial Aid Office are forming a committee to work on ways to make the process more understandable andeasier for all involved.  Issues like how and when forms are submitted and helping families with limited knowledge or experience with technology will be discussed.

Though the WSA is always pushing for increased support for Financial Aid, this committee will be working on making Financial Aid dollars work best for students within the current budget environment.

If you’re receiving financial aid and interested in serving on this new committee please send a brief statement of interest to bspahn@wesleyan.edu by Thursday at 5 p.m..

Best, Bradley Spahn, Co-Chair, Financial Aid Advisory Committee

“Women Soldiers in Conflict” Lecture — Feb. 22

Women Soldiers in Conflict:

Difficult Testimonies from the West Bank and Gaza

2 p.m. Mon., Feb. 22 — Usdan, 108

How do female soldiers in the Israeli Defense Forces experience their duties when serving in the West Bank and Gaza? Dana Golan, Executive Director of Breaking the Silence and former Lieutenant Education Corps officer, will discuss the experiences of female IDF soldiers who served in the occupied Palestinian territories from the start of the second Intifada until today.  She will also show clips from the documentary of women’s’ stories, To See if I am Smiling. Come join in a nuanced and honest discussion that grapples with the realities of occupation.

Come also for a vegetarian lunch from Typhoon at 48 Home Ave. at 12:15 p.m. before the Breaking the Silence event at 2:00 p.m.

Breaking the Silence is an organization of veteran Israeli soldiers working to improve Israeli society from within by demanding greater transparency and accountability. They collect testimonies of soldiers who served in the occupied Palestinian Territories, voicing the experiences of those soldiers and compelling Israeli society to address these challenges.

Building on the successful model of the Clinton Global Initiative, President Clinton launched the Clinton Global ClintonInitiative University (CGI U) in 2007 to engage the next generation of leaders on college campuses around the world. CGI U’s driving philosophy is that anyone, anywhere can make a difference through a Commitment to Action—a tangible contribution towards solving a specific problem on their campus or in the wider global community. Each year, CGI U hosts a meeting for students, national youth organizations, and university officials to discuss solutions to pressing global issues.

I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to apply to attend CGI U 2010, where you will join President Clinton, 1200 students, nearly 100 college and university presidents, NGOs, national youth organizations, athletes and celebrity-activists to discuss global problems! Over the three-day meeting, attendees will participate in forums and working sessions to formulate new ways to make a difference.
